Turn water glasses into musical instruments and experiment to create a song.
You will need:
- 5 or more glass drinking cups
1. Fill each glass with different amounts of water – from full to almost empty.
2. Hit each glass on the side or top edge of the glass. Each glass will make a different sound.
3. Make a tune by hitting the glasses in different orders.
Small vibrations are made when you hit the glass, which create sound waves through the water. The more water you have in the glass, the deeper the tone. The less water you have in the glass, the higher the tone. You can also rub your finger around the top edge of the glass to create musical sounds too. To create a sound by rubbing your finger around the edge takes practice. You need to experiment with how fast your put your finger around the edge and much you press down with your finger (but do not press too hard) to make a sound.
